This picture shows a continental cannon crew loading and awaiting to fire they used lots of tools to attend to one cannon and they would usually consist of 4-5 men on each cannon.

This is mainly a British cannon  used on Battle ships because of there smallness. They were also used in forts because a normal sized cannon would not be able to fit in a fort, especially in a narrow window.

A field howitzer had more places to shoot, for instance they could reach up and the shell would come down through the sky, unlike a cannon.

This is a British field howitzer primarily used for long range targets, and to break up infantry.
